Day 1: Classic Munich & Historic Heart

Morning (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

Start at Marienplatz, Munich's central square. See the iconic Glockenspiel in the Old Town Hall (Rathaus), playing daily at 11 AM. Wander through the nearby pedestrian zone to the stunning Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), with its unique twin towers. Climb the tower for great city views (€6). Walk 5 mins to the Viktualienmarkt, Munich's famous open-air food market – grab a fresh pretzel and a slice of Obatzda (cheesy spread) from a stall.

Transport: Walk from Marienplatz to Viktualienmarkt (5 mins). Cost: €6 for church tower, €2-3 for market snacks.

Afternoon (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM)

Lunch at a traditional beer hall like Hofbräuhaus (not the main restaurant – go to the beer garden side). Order Schweinshaxe (roasted pork knuckle) with sauerkraut and dumplings (€15-20). After lunch, walk 15 mins to the English Garden (Englischer Garten). Find the famous Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower) beer garden – rent a chair, order a Maß (1L) of beer (€8-12), and soak in the park vibes.

Transport: Walk from Viktualienmarkt to English Garden (15 mins). Cost: €15-20 for lunch, €8-12 for beer.

Evening (6:00 PM onwards)

Head to Odeonsplatz, the grand square near the Residenz palace. Stroll along the elegant Max-Joseph-Platz. Have dinner in a cozy, traditional tavern (Wirtshaus) near the square – look for places serving Münchner Weißwurst (white sausage) with sweet mustard. After dinner, take a short walk to the Munich Residenz (Royal Palace) for the evening light show on the facade (free, 7:30 PM). End at a beer garden like Augustiner Keller for a nightcap (€6-8 per beer).

Transport: Tram 18 from Marienplatz to Odeonsplatz (10 mins, €3). Cost: €12-18 for dinner, €6-8 for beer.

Day 2: Art, Culture & Bohemian Vibes

Morning (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM)

Start at the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich's world-class modern art museum (€12, free first Sunday). Focus on the 20th-century collections. Exit to the Isar River and walk along the riverbank towards the Kunstareal (Art District). See the Deutsches Museum (Science Museum) – skip the main building but check the outdoor aviation exhibits (free).

Transport: U-Bahn U3 from Marienplatz to Odeonsplatz (5 mins, €3.50), then walk to Pinakothek. Cost: €12 museum entry.

Afternoon (2:00 PM - 5:00 PM)

Lunch in the Schwabing neighborhood (walk 20 mins from Kunstareal). Find a small, family-run restaurant serving authentic Bavarian dishes like Knödel (dumplings) with roast pork (€10-15).
