Forget EHIC—it won’t cover a broken ankle in Luxembourg. Seriously. Luxembourg isn’t in the EU for healthcare like Germany or France. Your EHIC might get you a bed in a public hospital, but you’ll pay out of pocket for everything else. And that’s a problem. Medical costs here are brutal: a basic ER visit? €150+ (that’s $165). A night in a hospital? €250+ ($270). You don’t want to be scrambling for cash in a foreign language.
No visa requires it, but Luxembourg’s healthcare system is designed to make you pay upfront. If you get sick or hurt, you’ll get a bill. And if you don’t have insurance, you’re on the hook. Skip it, and you’re risking thousands.
Don’t buy insurance from your credit card. Most cover theft or flight delays—but not medical evacuation or emergency dental. They’re useless for Luxembourg. Also, skip "trip interruption" coverage. If your flight gets canceled, you’ll usually get a refund from the airline. Insurance for that? A rip-off.
Pay $60-$80 for a plan with €50,000+ medical coverage and evacuation. That’s it. Everything else is a distraction. Luxembourg’s healthcare is expensive, and you don’t want to be stuck paying for a broken arm in a country where €200 is the price of a basic meal. Get the right coverage, skip the extras, and travel without panic. It’s cheap insurance. Your wallet will thank you.
