Day 1-2: Arrival & City Highlights

Welcome to Porto! After arriving at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, you can either take a taxi or the metro (line D, 1.50€) into the city center. Start your journey by checking in to your accommodation, ideally in the Ribeira district to be right by the river. This area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering stunning views of the Douro River and the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, designed by the same architect who built the Eiffel Tower.

Spend the first day exploring Porto's main attractions. Walk through the narrow streets of Ribeira and visit the Church of Santa Catarina. For a panoramic view, take the funicular (50 cents) to Miragaia and then cross the Dom Luís I Bridge. End the day with a drink at Cais da Ribeira, where you can enjoy the sunset and the lively atmosphere. On your second day, visit the Livraria Lello, one of the world’s most beautiful bookstores, and spend the afternoon at the Serralves Museum Park, a serene green space perfect for a relaxing walk.

Day 3-4: Museums & Culture

Dive into Porto’s rich cultural scene with a visit to the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and admission costs €8. The surrounding park is free to access and perfect for a leisurely stroll. On your second day, head to the Casa da Música, a modern architectural masterpiece. If you're lucky, you might catch a concert. The building itself is worth exploring, with guided tours available for €5.

Another must-visit is the Porto Cathedral, located in the heart of the city. This Romanesque and Gothic structure dates back to the 12th century. Admission is free, and you can climb the tower for a small fee (€2) to enjoy a view of the city. End your cultural days with a visit to the Museu do Fado, where you can learn about the origins of this iconic Portuguese music genre. Admission is €5, and it's open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Day 5: Local Neighbourhoods & Food

Spend the day exploring Porto’s local neighborhoods, starting with Miragaia, known for its historic buildings and charming streets. Continue to Cedofeita, where you'll find the iconic Igreja de Cedofeita and plenty of traditional eateries. This is the perfect day to immerse yourself in local life and savor some of the best dishes Porto has to offer.

For lunch, head to a local tasca like Cervejaria Ramiro or O Prego, where you can try traditional dishes like francesinha. For dessert, visit a traditional pastel de nata spot like Pastelaria do Bolhão. In the evening, explore the Foz do Douro beach or relax at one of the riverfront bars. These neighborhoods and food spots offer a true taste of Porto’s charm and hospitality.
