Start with the Acropolis, the city's crown jewel. Climb the steps to the Parthenon, a timeless symbol of ancient Greece. The surrounding area includes the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its iconic Caryatid columns.
After a leisurely breakfast, head to the National Archaeological Museum, one of the world’s most comprehensive ancient artifact collections. Its highlights include the Mask of Agamemnon and the Antikythera Mechanism.
Explore the vibrant neighborhood of Monastiraki, known for its mix of street vendors, vintage shops, and the bustling Monastiraki Square. Visit the Varvakios Agora, the city’s largest market, to taste fresh produce and local delicacies.
Take a half-day trip to the ancient site of Delphi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once considered the center of the universe. The ruins include the Temple of Apollo, the ancient theater, and the Delphi Archaeological Museum. The journey takes about 2.5 hours by bus or car from Athens.
Use an AThens Metro mobile ticket for unlimited travel on the metro, buses, and trams. The city is compact, so walking is often the best option. Stay in Kolonaki or Exarcheia for a balance of convenience and local flavor.
