After landing at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, take the Arlanda Express to central Stockholm. Check into your hotel in the Norrmalm or Old Town area to be close to the city's core. Begin your first full day by wandering through Gamla Stan, the UNESCO-listed Old Town. Start at the royal palace, Kungliga Slottet, where you can tour the lavish State Apartments and catch a changing of the guard. Walk along the cobbled streets to the Gärdet Bridge, and stop by the Storkyrkan Cathedral for panoramic views from its tower.
In the afternoon, cross to the Island of Riddarholmen to visit the Stockholm City Museum, housed in a 17th-century monastery.
